In its first Conference League match, SC Freiburg triumphed over FK Jablonec with a score of 3-2 on Thursday. Initially, the match was competitive and evenly contested, but Freiburg, managed by Julian Schuster, gradually began to assert control. The team put pressure on Jablonec, with Cyriaque Irie and Lukas Kübler creating several promising chances, though in the opening stages, both sides narrowly missed scoring, with the ball striking the post twice.
The offensive dominance of Freiburg was rewarded in the 15th minute when Grifo converted a direct free-kick from a central location, giving the home side the lead. Although Freiburg remained dangerous after this goal, they struggled to widen their advantage. This opportunity was countered in the 28th minute when Jablonec found an equalizer. Following a cross from Jiri Slama, Antonin Rusek took a shot, which Ginter accidentally deflected into his own net.
The score shifted again to 2-1 in the 53rd minute. A Freiburg corner kick bounced off Dusan Pavlovic and found the Czech goal. The referee confirmed the goal after consulting with the video assistant. Freiburg utilized the momentum to score a second time in the 65th minute. After Grifo’s effort was blocked, Eggestein received the ball and slotted it precisely into the left corner from the second line.
However, the momentum was lost late in the game. In the third minute of added time, Garang Kuol clinched the victory, tapping in from close range following a slightly deflected cross from Martin Cedidla, pushing the score to 3-2.
