Germany’s Border Crackdown Sparks Green Party Fury

Two months after Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt (CSU) implemented stricter border controls, including the rejection of asylum seekers, the Green Party is calling for an end to the measures. Fraktionsvize Konstantin von Notz, in an interview with “Handelsblatt”, urged the minister to “finally distance himself from measures that have proven to be entirely inefficient”. He characterized the current actions as “short-term symbolic politics” that are “producing nothing but chaos.

Von Notz highlighted that the situation currently unfolding is a consequence of uncoordinated national unilateral actions, referencing the recently introduced Polish border controls. “The direct result is a domino effect, as repeatedly warned against” he stated. He added that the German government and the Interior Minister had consistently disregarded such warnings, including those from the business community.

Von Notz emphasized that Germany is particularly reliant on cooperation and open borders within the EU. He underscored that Germany derives “enormous economic benefits” from the free movement of people within the European Union.
