Police in Berlin-Wedding responded to a reported incident late Monday night that resulted in an officer-involved shooting. Authorities received a call around 11:45 PM regarding a man allegedly brandishing a knife within a residential building.
Upon arrival at the scene, officers encountered a 40-year-old male who, according to police statements, continued to hold the weapon and sustained self-inflicted injuries. After repeated verbal commands to drop the knife and warnings regarding the potential use of firearms, police discharged their weapons, striking the man in the legs.
The injured man was transported to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he is currently receiving intensive medical care. A homicide investigation unit has been assigned to the case, a standard procedure following instances of police use of firearms.
