Mercedes driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli secured the 2026 Formula 1 World Championship on Sunday by finishing in third place at the Mexican Grand Prix. At the age of 20, the Italian racer has become the youngest F1 World Champion in history, taking the record previously held by Sebastian Vettel.
On the track, Red Bull driver Max Verstappen took the victory, outpacing Lewis Hamilton, who finished second after driving for Ferrari. Completing the top five were Lando Norris and George Russell, while Oscar Piastri, Franco Colapinto, Liam Lawson, and Pierre Gasly managed to earn points in the remaining positions.
The race also saw several notable incidents. Valtteri Bottas was involved in an accident, which deployed the Safety Car. Furthermore, Arvid Lindblad and Fernando Alonso were forced to retire their vehicles prematurely. Separately, Nico Hülkenberg incurred a ten-second penalty that subsequently dropped him out of the points standings.
