Following the riots that erupted after the youth protests, the SPD is demanding thorough and decisive prosecution. Sebastian Fiedler, the SPD parliamentary group spokesperson for domestic affairs, stated to the “Rheinische Post” that the work of the police and the judiciary must continue. He stressed that violent acts must be investigated as thoroughly as possible and that perpetrators must be held accountable.
Fiedler expressed particular interest in determining which groups may have organized or intentionally provoked the unrest. He added that these findings are essential for preparing for future deployments and operations.
The domestic policy expert also emphasized that the attacks on police officers, as well as the destruction and looting in Frankfurt, cannot be justified by any means. He firmly asserted that these incidents are not political protests, but serious crimes. Furthermore, he deemed it deplorable that violent groups exploited the protests for their own selfish purposes.
