AfD Chairman Tino Chrupalla criticized Defense Minister Boris Pistorius, labeling him a “war minister.” Speaking to RTL and ntv, Chrupalla indicated that he also sees the escalation of the conflict with Russia as being driven by Pistorius.
The SPD politician stated that Germany needs to become “war-capable.” Chrupalla clarified that “war-capable” means wanting to enter a war and being willing to continue participating in it. He maintained this definition even when pressed for detail. Expressing deep concern, Chrupalla argued that Germany is being pulled further into the conflict in Ukraine and accused the government of lacking any real effort to end the war, noting that involvement now goes beyond just providing financial support.
Chrupalla further accused the federal government and the Bundeswehr of issuing threats toward Russia. He warned that “further threats in both directions bring Europe further into crisis.” Regarding Chancellor Merz’s rhetoric, Chrupalla cited the “Fight Tonight” statements and suggested that signals from the Bundeswehr indicating the ability to defeat Russia would not calm Europe, but instead heighten tensions. Instead, Chrupalla proposed that Chancellor Merz should engage in direct talks with Russian President Putin.
