AfD Reaches Record Vote Share, Widens Lead Over Opposition Parties in Latest Polling Survey

According to a recent survey by Forsa, the AfD has continued to increase its lead in voter favorability, maintaining a substantial lead over the Union. In the weekly poll covering the broadcasters RTL and ntv, the AfD gained one percentage point compared to the previous week, reaching 28 percent-its highest reading measured by Forsa nationwide thus far.

The political spectrum saw varied results. The Union remained steady on the second spot with 22 percent. The Greens lost one point, dropping to 14 percent, while the BSW made a comeback, achieving 3 percent for the first time since March. Meanwhile, the SPD, Linke, and FDP remained unchanged at 12 percent, 11 percent, and 4 percent, respectively.

In the measurement of political competence, the AfD also leads and expanded its margin over the Union. The AfD’s support rose one percentage point to 15 percent. In contrast, CDU and CSU both experienced a one-point decline, now standing at 13 percent. Regarding who citizens trust most to solve the country’s problems, the Greens remained favored by 8 percent, the SPD by 5 percent, and the Linke by 4 percent. However, a clear majority of 53 percent do not trust any single party to best solve the nation’s problems.

On the issue of Chancellor Friedrich Merz (CDU), only 14 percent of citizens reported being satisfied with his work. Conversely, 85 percent-an increase of one point-expressed dissatisfaction. Even within his own party base, criticism prevailing, a majority of 57 percent of CDU and CSU supporters are unhappy with the Chancellor’s work.

These findings are based on surveys covering 2,000 individuals who were polled between May 12 and May 18.
