On Sunday, an Amazon cargo flight strayed off the runway during landing at Miami International Airport, striking several vehicles on an adjacent street. Authorities have confirmed that at least five people were killed in the incident.
The accident site remains an active area, as more than 60 fire units were deployed to combat the fire that broke out following the crash. An Amazon spokesperson stated that the flight was operated by 21 Air, noting that the situation was rapidly developing and they are still gathering comprehensive details.
The aircraft, a 32-year-old Boeing 767, originated in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and was attempting to land on Runway 30, which measures over 9,000 feet in length. Neither the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) nor the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has closed their investigation into the event.
While no parts or wreckage were found on the runway itself, the plane’s navigation equipment sustained damage upon leaving the designated landing area. Investigators have yet to determine how the flight failed to slow down in time.
