Former CDU Member of the Bundestag Wolfgang Bosbach has criticized the way Chancellor Friedrich Merz handled Traffic Minister Patrick Schnieder, both of whom belong to the CDU. According to Bosbach, he knows Schnieder from the parliamentary group and holds him in high regard, describing him as “professionally sound and personally excellent.” Although Bosbach does not know the reasons that prompted the Chancellor to withdraw his trust from Schnieder, he finds “the manner of it all very troubling.” He added that “Patrick did not deserve that.” Schnieder was originally intended to be replaced as Transport Minister during the cabinet reshuffle. However, after the planned successor, Fritz Gützler, briefly withdrew, Chancellor Merz initially refrained from making the planned personnel decision.
