Braga Edges Out Freiburg in Dramatic Europa League Semi-Final First Leg Win

Sporting Braga managed a 2-1 victory over SC Freiburg in the first leg of the Europa League, securing the win only in added time.

The home side struck early, taking the lead in the 8th minute following a quick play inside the penalty area, with the goal scored by Demir Tiknaz, making it 1-0. However, Freiburg did not stay behind for long, as Vincenzo Grifo responded sharply in the 16th minute with a clean counter-attack to equalize, setting the score at 1-1.

Midway through the game, Braga had a big opportunity to regain the lead just before halftime, when Rodrigo Zalazar missed a free-kick in added time (45.+2) that was saved by Freiburg’s goalkeeper, Noah Atubolu.

During the second half, the match remained largely controlled and played defensively. Despite having more possession, Braga struggled to create clear scoring chances, allowing the game to appear headed for a draw.

The deciding moment arrived just before the final whistle. In the second minute of added time, Mario Dorgeles reacted the fastest to a save by the opposing goalkeeper, slotting the ball from close range for the 2-1 winner. This goal was pivotal, giving Sporting Braga a strong advantage heading into the return match.
