Football superstar Cristiano Ronaldo has announced his farewell to the Portuguese national team. The 41-year-old confirmed via a social media post on Thursday that the time has come for him to pass the responsibility to the next generation, noting that this was not an easy decision.
Ronaldo stated that following the international break in November, he will “hand over” the Number 7 jersey. During his career with Portugal, he amassed 234 international appearances and scored 146 goals, setting the world record for both most caps and most international goals.
While representing Portugal, he participated in six European Championships and six World Cups, with his greatest success being the victory at the 2016 Euros. His club career has seen him play for Manchester United, Real Madrid, and Juventus Turin. He currently plays for the Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr FC.
