US stock exchanges registered gains on Wednesday. By the end of trading in New York, the Dow had reached 53,061 points, marking a rise of 0.6 percent compared to the previous day. Slightly earlier, the broader S&P 500 was trading at around 7,665 points, up 0.5 percent, while the technology exchange, Nasdaq, saw its Nasdaq 100 index measure approximately 29,145 points, gaining 0.2 percent at that time.
Positive sentiment on Wall Street was bolstered by a more optimistic outlook on the fiscal year provided by Dell. Investors apparently interpreted this as a good sign for the AI sector. However, the increasing trend of AI investments being financed through credit has led traders to closely monitor interest rates and, consequently, inflation developments.
Turning to markets outside the US, the European common currency weakened slightly on Wednesday evening; one Euro cost 1.1584 US dollars, meaning the dollar was available for 0.8633 Euros.
Gold prices benefited significantly, trading at $4,390 per troy ounce in the evening, an increase of 1.4 percent. This equated to a cost of 121.84 Euros per gram. Conversely, oil prices rose. A barrel of Brent crude from the North Sea cost $95.40 around 10 PM German time on Wednesday, representing an increase of 75 cents-or 0.8 percent-from the close of the preceding trading day.
