The German Trade Union Confederation (DGB) fears that oil and gas companies will not fully pass the planned reduction in energy taxes on to consumers. Consequently, the DGB is demanding that the Federal Minister-President of North Rhine-Westphalia, Friedrich Merz (CDU), organize an oil price summit. According to DGB board member Stefan Körzell speaking to the “Bild” (Wednesday edition), Merz should invite the CEOs of the oil and gas conglomerates to the Chancellery. Körzell stated, “The discount at the gas pumps must reach drivers and businesses in full. The Federal Spokesman must make it unequivocally clear to the oil and gas companies: Enough with the trickery”. He added that safeguards must be put in place to ensure that the financial relief reaches motorists.
