Dynamo Dresden’s Kapitän Kutschke Hangs Up Boots After Career Defined by Local Loyalty and Goals

Dynamo Dresden’s star player and iconic figure, Stefan Kutschke, announced on Wednesday that he will be ending his active playing career after the current season, meaning the 2. Bundesliga player will depart the team in the summer of 2026. Kutschke, who is 37 years old, has been a defining presence for the club.

His professional journey began after stints in youth development and with SV Babelsberg 03, eventually leading him to RB Leipzig and the Bundesliga. The Dresden native made his debut in the top German league on August 17, 2013, playing for VfL Wolfsburg against Schalke 04, where he immediately scored his first Bundesliga goal. Across his career, he amassed a total of 27 Bundesliga appearances, 192 appearances in the Third League (Drittliga), and 144 games in the 2. Bundesliga.

Kutschke returned to Dynamo Dresden twice. After a loan spell during the 2015/16 season and time with FC Ingolstadt, he finally joined the club permanently in 2022. Last season, he successfully captained the team to promotion to the 2. Bundesliga. While with Dynamo, he featured in 187 official matches, netting 53 goals. Although he is retiring, Kutschke will remain with the club, joining the sports sector through a trainee program.
