Friedrich Bets Her Momentum on Ilse Aigner for Presidential Leadership

Former Interior Minister and CSU regional group leader Hans-Peter Friedrich believes that Ilse Aigner is the most likely candidate to become the next Federal President at the CSU party convention in Munich. Despite the current silence from Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz of the CDU, Friedrich told the “Rheinische Post” that he is “very strongly convinced that things will go in Ilse Aigner’s direction, and that there is no one who can challenge her.”

The former Vice President of the Bundestag added that there is no better candidate, noting that Aigner has been active in politics for decades. He stated that she has demonstrated in all positions and functions “that she conducts politics in a sovereign manner and is also conciliatory toward all political directions.”

Regarding the Chancellor’s lack of comment, Friedrich characterized the delay as merely “a question of tactics, when one truly steps out with a decision,” reflecting the sentiment of many who wanted a word in the matter.
