The German Ministry of Defence has significantly developed its plan for reforming the Federal Agency for Equipment, Information Technology, and Use of the Armed Forces. The stated goal of this overhaul is to reorganize procurement processes and establish a new innovation center.
According to the Ministry, the procurement agency itself will be restructured to be more flexible, allowing for the more efficient use of expertise and capabilities. Furthermore, the agency plans to establish a foreign branch in Brussels to improve networking and coordination with both the European Union and NATO. Domestically, the presence in Bremen will be rebuilt, while the operations in Dresden will be expanded.
Operationally, the process of meeting requirements-from initial planning stages through to full procurement-will be streamlined and standardized. These reforms emphasize attributes such as “agility, acceleration, flexibility, and innovative capacity”.
These initiatives include the creation of a second innovation center in Kiel, aimed at strengthening collaboration with the German defense and security industry. Additionally, the existing innovation center in Erding will see complementary staffing increases.
