The German export economy has recently seen a decline in sentiment. In May, the Ifo Export Expectations dropped to -5.5 points, a significant worsening from the -1.2 points recorded in April. Timo Wollmershäuser, the Ifo economic chief, noted, “Despite a recovery in export business during the first quarter, the outlook remains challenging. Geopolitical uncertainty continues to be high”.
Several sectors have faced disappointing forecasts. The automobile industry, after benefiting from four highly optimistic months, now anticipates declining exports. Similarly, international revenues are expected to fall in the metal industry. Generally, energy-intensive industries are facing pressure in global markets and anticipate downturns. In contrast, the electronics sector remains slightly optimistic about its export business, although this enthusiasm is less pronounced than in the previous month. Furniture manufacturers are also forecasting an increase in exports.
