Britta Haßelmann, the co-chairwoman and leader of the Green Party parliamentary group, described the current CDU/SPD coalition government using “very poor” terms and called upon CDU leader Friedrich Merz to finally exercise his leadership responsibility. Speaking to the news portal T-Online, Haßelmann expressed her hope that both Merz and Lars Klingbeil would soon become pragmatic. She asserted that after a full year in power, the government has proven to be “incapable of action” and failing to deliver. According to Haßelmann, the Green Party group has observed a pattern where promises are continually made but never kept.
The Green Party’s parliamentary group is set to hold a private strategic session in Leipzig starting on Tuesday. The meeting will feature Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, a CDU politician and chairwoman of the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS). Haßelmann explained that inviting Kramp-Karrenbauer was “essential” given the current climate of crisis. She stated that it is more critical than ever for “democratic forces of differing opinions” to gather and discuss strategies for averting the “division of society”. She concluded by reaffirming, “We Greens are standing for this, and so is Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer as chairwoman of the KAS. We Greens will always maintain these contacts”.
