Given the current elevated fuel prices, Sören Pellmann, the leader of the Left faction, is demanding the implementation of both a windfall tax and a profit margin ceiling for oil corporations. According to Pellmann, oil companies simply do not care about ordinary people. He expressed sharp criticism toward the government, stating that nobody can understand why the administration is allowing this “shameless extortion” to continue, adding that this situation must not be permitted.
Pellmann called for an immediate policy reversal, advocating for a shift towards policies centered on the populace. These policies, he stated, must include genuinely effective financial relief measures, alongside the windfall tax and profit margin cap designed to curb the excesses of major oil multinationals.
This stance comes shortly after the SPD urged the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs, Katherina Reiche (CDU), to accelerate the planned fuel price ceiling.
