Florian Hager has been confirmed as the Director-General (Intendant) of the Hessischer Rundfunk. The Broadcasting Council elected Hager on Friday with 29 votes in favor, one vote against, and no abstentions. As there were no opposing candidates, his re-election was straightforward. His new term will begin on March 1, 2027, and will last for five years, as decided by the Broadcasting Council.
Miriam Dangel, the chairperson of the Broadcasting Council, stated that the re-election reflects the council’s expectation that necessary reform processes and structural changes toward a modern media house will strengthen the Hessischer Rundfunk’s role as an indispensable public broadcaster in Hesse. She emphasized that given the economic, journalistic, social, and media policy challenges-alongside future topics surrounding digitalization and artificial intelligence-“continuity and clear, considered leadership” are essential.
