High-Speed Crash in Hessen: Car Violates Pedestrian Zone, Leaving Eight Injured

A Mercedes drove at high speed through a pedestrian zone and crashed into a department store in Hofgeismar, Hesse, early Friday morning. North Hessian Police confirmed that witnesses reported the driver had reportedly experienced medical issues on a crosswalk prior to the incident.

The event took place around 10:30 a.m. on Mühlenstraße, where the Mercedes entered the pedestrian zone, striking several passersby.

The 68-year-old driver from Hofgeismar was taken to a hospital after receiving emergency medical treatment, and his condition is reportedly critical. In total, eight people were injured, four of whom were taken to hospitals as a precaution. Current information suggests that no severe injuries have occurred.

Police and emergency services are present at the scene with numerous personnel. An expert has been involved in the investigation to determine the cause of the accident. Significant property damage was sustained within the pedestrian zone, the exact extent of which has not yet been calculated. The accident site remains currently cordoned off.
