Federal Justice Minister Stefanie Hubig, of the SPD, views the upcoming appointment of Nina Warken (CDU) to the open position in the Federal Chancellery as a positive development, noting that it would see a woman assume leadership of the Federal Chancellery. According to Hubig’s comments to the “Handelsblatt” (Friday edition), having a woman head the Federal Chancellery would effectively double the representation of women in the Coalition Committee.
The current head of the Chancellery, Thorsten Frei (CDU), is expected to succeed Jens Spahn (CDU) as the leader of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group. Reports from “Bild” and “Handelsblatt” indicate that Federal Minister of Health, Nina Warken (CDU), is slated to take over Frei’s role in the Federal Chancellery.
Regarding the impact of these transitions on the governing coalition, Hubig stated that she welcomes the CDU’s swift actions to ensure clarity, emphasizing that the shared work of the parties must continue.
Furthermore, the Justice Minister personally addressed Jens Spahn’s resignation following the surrogate pregnancy controversy. Hubig acknowledged that Spahn had always been a dedicated politician, adding that while his departure was undoubtedly not an easy decision, she could fully understand that he chose to prioritize his family in that particular situation.
