India Reports Over 117 Deaths in Uttar Pradesh

According to reports cited by local authorities, at least 117 people have died in the northern Indian state of Uttar Pradesh due to continuous rain, lightning strikes, and thunderstorms over the last 36 to 48 hours.

The severe weather has affected at least 19 districts. In addition to the confirmed fatalities, reports detail numerous losses of livestock and dozens of houses damaged by the extreme conditions.

In response, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has instructed authorities to immediately visit the affected areas to assist the victims and ensure the prompt distribution of compensation.

Rescue efforts continued into Thursday, and officials stated that the death toll could still rise.
