Following the party conference in Berlin, newly elected FDP chairman Wolfgang Kubicki stated that he feels strongly supported in his new role. Speaking to ARD on Sunday, Kubicki addressed his challenger, Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, confirming that he is the elected national chairman of the entire Free Democratic Party. He noted that the direction of the party has been set, as 60 percent of the members voted for him. “Whoever wanted to make a decision in the FDP has gotten one” he said.
For the FDP, Kubicki sees the dismantling of subsidies as a key priority. He pointed out that the current subsidy report outlines €117 billion in subsidies, six times the amount seen ten years ago. This raises the question of whether such spending has truly increased prosperity or perhaps even impeded it. Furthermore, Kubicki advocates for maintaining the CO2 certificate trade. He argued that this mechanism allows individuals to adjust their behavior slowly and continuously, unlike being subjected to mandates or outright prohibitions.
