The conviction of Lina E., a leftist extremist, has resulted in her early release. The Federal Court of Justice announced on Wednesday that the Federal Public Prosecutor’s Office appeal was rejected, and a decision by the Dresden Higher Regional Court was upheld. E. had been sentenced to a total prison term of five years and three months for leftist extremist acts of violence. She was reported to be a member of a militant, left-wing extremist group active in Leipzig, which carried out violent attacks against members of the far-right scene. During these assaults, the victims were often severely injured with blunt instruments.
Two-thirds of her sentence were served while in pre-trial detention. The Higher Regional Court had previously decided, following a psychological evaluation, that Lina E. had a positive prognosis for probation outside of prison. Consequently, the execution of the remaining sentence was suspended. The Federal Court of Justice confirmed this assessment. The Karlsruhe judges stated, “This is particularly true because she plausibly distanced herself from her previous propensity for violence, conducted herself properly during incarceration, and has a viable future prospect” (Decision of May 6, 2026 – StB 24/26).
