In the Leipzig city center, a vehicle drove into a crowd, resulting in fatalities and injuries. Leipzig Mayor Burkhard Jung (SPD) stated on Monday evening that there were two deaths, and the driver had been apprehended. He also reported that there were several dozen injured people, including what were unconfirmed reports of two severely injured individuals.
Police confirmed that the immediate danger had passed. According to witness accounts, a vehicle was driven at high speed down Grimmaische Straße within the city center.
The area was closed off in the evening, and numerous emergency services were present on site. While initial details regarding the background of the incident were unclear, the city has received reports of dozens of casualties.
