The Left party is pressuring Justice Minister Stefanie Hubig (SPD) to promptly strengthen sexual offense laws. Luke Hoß, a parliamentarian and political spokesperson for the Left, told the “Rheinische Post” that the “Yes means Yes” rule should have been an established norm in criminal law by 2026. Hoß stressed that common sense dictates mutual consent in sexual activity. “If someone acts without consent, they are the perpetrator,” he stated directly. He criticized anyone who still asks victims of sexual assaults to prove that they explicitly said no, arguing that such a stance seems to favor the protection of offenders over sexual self-determination and consent. Furthermore, Hoß demanded that the extended statute of limitations for rape cases is overdue and must be implemented as quickly as possible.
