Lufthansa Pilots Strike Threatens Travel Amid Ongoing Labor Disputes

The two-day strike, called by the Union Cockpit (VC) representing pilots, began Monday morning involving Lufthansa, Lufthansa Cargo, Lufthansa Cityline, and Eurowings staff. While all employees are impacted, Eurowings is only affected on Monday, with the strike continuing through to 11:59 PM on Tuesday. Flights destined for the Middle East have been excluded from the strike action.

The Union Cockpit stated that the strike was deemed necessary because the employer side was unwilling to reach a settlement in several collective bargaining conflicts. Despite foregoing strike actions over the Easter holidays, the union reported that there had been no serious offers from the employers, particularly regarding company pension provisions and wage agreements, where significant discrepancies remain.

This development is likely to cause numerous flight cancellations at Lufthansa, especially after the cabin crew previously staged a strike on Friday. The airline has announced its commitment to minimizing the impact on passengers. Consequently, efforts are underway to have as many flights as possible operated by other airlines within the Lufthansa group and associated partner carriers. Travelers are advised to check the current status of their specific flights.
