Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyj announced Saturday that he spoke with Chancellor Friedrich Merz of the CDU. During the conversation, the primary focus was on the possibility of supplying missiles required for Ukraine’s Patriot defense systems. According to Zelenskyj, Russia is now focusing entirely on missile campaigns against the country, having “no other options left to prolong the war.”
In addition to discussing military aid, the President noted that both leaders also covered the situation on the frontline. Zelenskyj updated Merz on the latest developments and Ukrainian successes. He specifically rejected reports claiming that Russian troops had seized Kostyantynivka in the Donbass region, calling the claims a “Russian lie, an attempt to generate a headline.”
The Ukrainian head of state further stated that had Kostyantynivka been under Russian control, Putin might have no issue meeting with him there to find a diplomatic way to finally end the conflict. However, he emphasized that Putin will not cross the front lines.
