Sachsen-Anhalt’s Minister-President, Sven Schulze (CDU), plans that the federal chairman of the CDU, Friedrich Merz, will also conduct campaign appearances ahead of the state legislative election on September 6th. Schulze told the newspaper “Bild” that Merz will be active in Sachsen-Anhalt, similar to many other members of the federal government. Furthermore, he mentioned that state premiers such as Markus Söder and Hendrik Wüst would support Merz. The purpose of these appearances, Schulze noted, is to reinforce Sachsen-Anhalt’s strong partnerships with other federal states, as well as maintain collaboration with Berlin and Brussels. Schulze did not specify an exact number of appointments Merz would have. The CDU politician also stated that the election is expected to involve a clear choice between the CDU and the AfD. In his view, the central campaign issue boils down simply to Sven Schulze, the Minister-President of Sachsen-Anhalt, versus the AfD.
