Borussia Mönchengladbach, a Bundesliga side, has confirmed the dismissal of head coach Eugen Polanski. The club announced on Sunday that Tobias Trulsen, his assistant coach, was also released from his duties. The club’s sporting director, Rouven Schröder, stated that despite good preparation and positive early signs, the team had failed to achieve the desired results in the Bundesliga. He explained that the recently observed performance levels led to the immediate termination of Polanski’s contract.
Until a new head coach is appointed, the team will initially be managed in an interim capacity by Jan-Moritz Lichte, who will be supported by Markus Gellhaus and the coaching staff.
Throughout his career, Polanski has had a lengthy association with the club’s youth setup. He initially gained experience as an assistant under Dieter Hecking. In the summer of 2019, he took over from Otto Addo in the transition phase. Later, in October 2021, he coached the U17 team for nearly a year, followed by the U23 team in the summer of 2022. In September 2025, he initially stepped in temporarily to coach Borussia’s senior squad following the departure of Gerardo Seoane, and in November 2025, Polanski was finally hired with a permanent head coaching contract. However, the club began the new season disastrously; after recording no points in the first three games, followed by a 0-5 defeat against Freiburg, the decision to part ways was made.
