NRW Media Minister Nathanael Liminski (CDU) expressed concern over the AfD’s potential electoral success in Saxony-Anhalt. Speaking to Deutschlandfunk, he noted that the AfD has long made it clear that it views public broadcasting as an adversary of its political agenda, frequently attacking it with populist rhetoric such as referring to it as a “lying press” or “state radio.” This relates specifically to the possible termination of the MDR state treaty, which he confirms is “formally and legally” possible. However, Liminski stressed that the constitution remains in effect within the state. He added that as regional governments, states have a duty to ensure sufficient funding for public broadcasting, and they must find ways to achieve this goal. The Minister also mentioned that discussions regarding this funding are already taking place among the various states. On a personal note, Liminski stated he has not ruled out losing the election in Saxony-Anhalt.
