Schulze Eyes CDU Power Grab in Saxony-Anhalt After Historic Election Defeat

Following the CDU’s historically poor performance in Saxony-Anhalt, Minister President Sven Schulze may soon take on a new position. According to a report by the “Mitteldeutsche Zeitung”, citing several senior Christdemocrats, Schulze is preparing to replace Guido Heuer, the current head of the party group in the state parliament. This change could potentially happen as early as Tuesday.

The shift comes after the CDU state leader announced the day before, following a meeting of the state board in Magdeburg, that the party leadership structure will be newly elected at a special party conference either in November or December. During that announcement, the state leader stated that he does not intend to stand for re-election. Political party member Sepp Müller has already been suggested as a potential successor for the party leadership.
