The designation of current CDU General Secretary Carsten Linnemann as the Federal Minister of Health is met with considerable skepticism. According to a poll conducted by Forsa for RTL/ntv, just under a quarter of respondents, specifically 23 percent, believe he is suitable for the position. Conversely, nearly half (49 percent) deem him unfit, while 28 percent refrained from offering an opinion.
As expected, Linnemann is viewed positively primarily by his own supporters, with 42 percent rating him favorably. However, opposition is strongest among members of the Left party (71 percent) and the AfD (73 percent), who consider him unsuitable for the health ministry role.
The planned overall cabinet reshuffle is also viewed with limited optimism. Only a minority of the population, 25 percent, believes that the federal government will function better than before due to the current and future personnel changes. Roughly two-thirds (68 percent) do not expect any improvement.
Optimism about the cabinet shake-up is highest among CDU/CSU supporters, 53 percent of whom are optimistic about the government working better afterwards. Skepticism is predominant among supporters of the coalition partner SPD, with 60 percent expressing doubts, and the AfD shows the strongest negativity, with 90 percent of its members seeing no improvement from the planned restructuring.
Forsa surveyed 1,002 individuals on July 24th and 27th.
