SPD Sees Positive Signal for Black-Red Coalition Amid Proposed CDU Leadership Change

Dirk Wiese, the parliamentary chief of staff for the SPD Bundestag parliamentary group, views the proposal to appoint Thorsten Frei, the current Minister of the Chancellery from the CDU, as the head of the CDU/CSU parliamentary group as a positive development for the Black-Red coalition.

Speaking to the “Rheinische Post,” Wiese stated, “Even under his leadership, we will continue a cooperative and trusting partnership for the country.” He mentioned that he knows Frei well, recalling their “close and trusting collaboration” during the last Grand Coalition when both individuals served as deputy group leaders for domestic and legal affairs.

According to media reports, Frei is expected to become the new chairman of the Union following the resignation of Jens Spahn.
