The SPD parliamentary group is planning its traditional asparagus outing for Tuesday evening, an event designed to send a message of cohesion within the governing coalition. Esra Limbacher, the deputy group leader and spokesperson for the Seeheim district, told RTL and ntv that the gathering is more than just a social meal.
Limbacher emphasized that the main purpose is to signal unity, which is why the coalition partners of the CDU and CSU have also been invited. He clarified that the trip will not be funded by taxpayer money; rather, each participant will contribute personally.
“Everyone pays for their own asparagus. Markus Söder included. But the focus is not the food; the goal is to send joint signals that we need reforms for this country,” the SPD politician explained.
According to Limbacher, the coalition intends to demonstrate its solidarity and prove that it can make decisions from the center of government.
