Specialist Physicians Slam Government Cuts Threatening Women’s Healthcare and Preventive Care

The peak association of specialist physicians in Germany (Spifa) has sharply criticized the federal government’s policy regarding women’s health. Dirk Heinrich, the Chairman of Spifa, told the “Rheinische Post” (Friday edition) that while there is significant media pressure calling for better healthcare for women, the reality is that the federal government is cutting corners in this area.

According to Heinrich, the government is deciding to save money by reducing additional appointments and lowering the level of preventive health offerings for women. This, he argues, is weakening critical areas such as prenatal care, vaccination prevention, and early cancer detection.

Spifa contends that strengthening the healthcare system for women requires the provision of additional financial resources. However, the federal budget is currently being streamlined-or ‘repaired’-under the GKV Savings Act, which, in Spifa’s view, happens at the expense of women’s health. Heinrich concluded by stating that the German Bundestag must now correct the contradiction in the federal government’s actions.
