The suspected perpetrator of the attack on a youth care facility in Stade, which resulted in six deaths, has died in the Bremervörde correctional facility. According to the Justice Ministry, which made the announcement on Tuesday, the death is currently being classified as a suicide.
There is no indication yet to suggest foul play. The prisoner was discovered during morning checks in his single-occupancy cell at 6:05 am on Tuesday. At that time, he had already ceased having a body temperature. An emergency physician summoned to the scene confirmed the cause of death as strangulation at 6:29 am.
Investigations into the specific circumstances surrounding his death have been launched. Both the deceased’s family and the families of the victims of the June 29 attack in Stade, where six people were killed, have been notified. The correctional facility is currently preparing a comprehensive immediate report.
