Many German companies have organized structural measures to support the promotion of women. According to a survey published by the IT industry association Bitkom, approximately three-quarters of German companies (72 percent) have designated a specific person or department responsible for promoting women and increasing female representation.
Concerning the level of responsibility, nearly half of these companies (48 percent) assign this task to the executive board or the CEO. For another number of companies, the responsibility falls within the HR or personnel department (29 percent), while the middle management level handles it in 20 percent of organizations. Furthermore, some companies utilize specialized roles: more than a quarter (26 percent) employ dedicated Gender Equality Officers, and 12 percent are managed by Diversity Officers.
Bitkom Research conducted the survey by interviewing 603 companies with 20 or more employees across Germany. These interviews, conducted with management, decision-makers, and HR directors, took place between the 50th calendar week of 2025 and the 6th calendar week of 2026.
