German Federal Police have recorded 11,678 instances of unauthorized entry at Bavaria’s land borders since the reintroduction of border controls in September 2024, authorities announced Thursday.

The majority of these cases occurred along the border with Austria, accounting for 8,866 incidents, followed by the border with the Czech Republic, with 2,458. During the same period, 6,814 individuals were refused entry or deported, including 405 subject to re-entry bans for Germany.

Between May 8th and July 31st, 2025, a further 3,012 unauthorized entries were detected – 2,151 via Austria and 800 through the Czech Republic. Law enforcement officers arrested 171 suspected people smugglers and executed 655 arrest warrants during this timeframe. Additionally, 48 individuals with links to extremist or Islamist ideologies were identified.

The Federal Police have been conducting checks at Germany’s internal Schengen borders since September 2024, citing the aims of safeguarding internal security and curbing irregular migration. These figures are based on police registration statistics up to June 2025, supplemented by special reports for July and remain subject to slight adjustments pending further investigation.
