German Troops to Ukraine? MP Predicts Potential Deployment for Peace Support.

The chairman of the German Parliament’s Defence Committee, Thomas Röwekamp, anticipates the potential deployment of German soldiers to Ukraine should a peace agreement and accompanying security guarantees be established.

Speaking to the Redaktionsnetzwerk Deutschland, Röwekamp stated he considers it likely, not improbable, that German troops could serve within Ukraine. He argued against a blanket rejection of such a possibility, citing the precedent of international monitoring missions elsewhere. He also suggested the potential for German involvement in training Ukrainian soldiers within Ukraine itself.

However, Röwekamp clarified that he doesn’t foresee a deployment on the scale of the German brigade stationed in Lithuania, or a similarly substantial operation. He cautioned that discussion of troop deployment is premature, given the ongoing uncertainty regarding a potential peace settlement and the nature of any associated security guarantees. He emphasized the need for a wait-and-see approach until these factors are clearer.
