Klöckner Silent on Habeck Criticism After Mandate Waiver

Germany’s parliamentary landscape is experiencing a series of shifts as lawmakers relinquish their seats, the latest being former Vice Chancellor and Economics Minister Robert Habeck. A spokesperson for Bundestag President Julia Klöckner has responded to pointed criticism leveled against her by Habeck, stating that the office will not be commenting on the matter.

Habeck announced his departure from the Bundestag and, in an interview with the ‘taz’ newspaper, expressed strong reservations regarding Klöckner’s leadership, suggesting a perceived inability to foster consensus.

The Bundestag President’s office, however, characterized the relinquishing of mandates as a routine parliamentary occurrence. The spokesperson emphasized that Klöckner does not typically comment on individual departures or associated critiques, framing it as standard practice within the legislative body. This resignation follows a pattern of several lawmakers opting to step down during the current parliamentary term.
