Borussia Dortmund defeated Union Berlin 3‑0 in the Saturday night match of the 19th Bundesliga round. With Bayern’s loss away, Dortmund has narrowed the gap to the league leaders to eight points, leaving Union still in ninth place.
The game opened with an early penalty for Dortmund in the 10th minute. Guirassy had been brought down inside Union’s penalty area after falling following a failed clearance by Querfeld. Emre Can stepped up and calmly sent the ball into the lower left corner, securing an early advantage for the BVB.
Union Berlin showed no real shock, repeatedly pressing for a goal. However, Steffen Baumgart’s team lacked the precision needed to create danger. Their first significant chance came in the 28th minute when Diogo Leite’s header from a corner was comfortably cleared by Dortmund goalkeeper Kobel. Shortly thereafter, Dortmund had a strong opportunity: Nmecha cut inside from the left, but Guirassy’s shot was blocked.
In the second half Dortmund extended their lead in the 53rd minute. A corner from Ryerson set up Nico Schlotterbeck, who leapt onto the second post and struck a powerful shot. Rønnow could deflect it with his fingertips, but the ball slipped into the net, sealing the victory and making it difficult for Union to challenge the solid Dortmund defence.
Despite more possession and several harmless wingers, Union failed to generate genuine threat. The BVB stood firm, leaving the home side with little room for dangerous actions. In the 75th minute Union pushed forward, introducing Oliver Burke and András Schäfer, but the substitutions couldn’t remedy the lack of breakthrough power in attack. Accurate passing and threatening finishing were missing, keeping Dortmund’s advantage intact.
The final goal arrived in the 84th minute when Maximilian Beier, after excellent build‑up play and sharp through‑passes, finished strongly, sealing the win.
Overall, Dortmund proved the more mature side, controlling the game well in the latter half; Union had no noteworthy chances. The result underscored the efficiency of the BVB.
