Germany’s Greens Launch Economic Advisory Council, Bringing in E.ON and Commerzbank Executives

The Greens’ parliamentary group has established a new economic advisory board. About 50 managers, board members and founders are expected to join, according to the “Handelsblatt” (Friday edition), which cites an official list. The board will convene for its inaugural meeting on March 2.

Its members will come from a range of industries and firm sizes. Notably, some of the most prominent participants are managers who have previously criticized the Greens. These include Leonhard Birnbaum, former chair of E.ON’s board; Stefan Kapferer, head of the electricity‑grid operator 50 Hertz; former Secretary of State under former Federal Minister of Economy Philipp Rösler (FDP); and Dirk Jandura, president of the Federation of German Foreign Trade (BGA).

Greens economic and finance spokesperson Katharina Beck said that the appointments deliberately focused on individuals with executive responsibility in companies. She added that the goal is to create a trusting environment where regular, constructive-and sometimes critical-perspectives can be obtained, and that she is “extremely pleased” with the successful diversity of the board’s composition.
