EU Foreign Affairs Commissioner Kaja Kallas remains unconvinced that Russia is making any real effort to bring an end to the war in Ukraine. Speaking before an EU foreign‑ministers meeting in Brussels on Monday, she said she does not share the optimism that some Americans hold.
According to Kallas, the Russian negotiators seem not to be taking the talks seriously and are unwilling to engage on political issues. She added that while Ukraine is facing intense pressure to give in, it is still unwilling to do so-even if that willingness would not guarantee lasting peace.
For the same reasons, she does not expect to see significant progress in the coming weeks or months.
