Taylor Swift has returned to the top of the official German singles charts, a comeback that followed the expected sharp decline of carnival songs, according to GfK’s announcement on Friday. While her track “The Fate Of Ophelia” currently sits at number three, “Opalite” – which received a music video early in February – has taken the number‑one position. This marks Swift’s second chart‑topping hit in Germany.
Female artists occupy the entire top five: Zara Larsson’s “Lush Life” holds the second spot, Raye’s “Where Is My Husband” is at number four, and the fictional K‑Pop trio Huntrix-made up of vocalists Audrey Nuna, Ejae, and Rei Ami-lead with “Golden” at number five.
On the album charts, Schlager singer Howard Carpendale achieves a historic first, claiming the top spot for the first time in his 60‑year career with “Zeitlos”. The remaining positions are filled by a variety of rock and related genres: Post‑hardcore trio Fjort is at number two with “Belle epoque”; indie‑folk act Mumford & Sons take number three with “Prizefighter”; the Ruhrpott group Der Butterwegge appears at number five with “Liebe & Revolte”; the super‑group Universum 25 reaches number eight with “Die Maschinen wollen leben”; and crossover pioneers Clawfinger secure number nine with “Before We All Die”. Between them, rapper Crystal F lands at number six with “Fiebertrauma”.
The official German music charts are compiled by GfK Entertainment on behalf of the Bundesverband Musikindustrie and represent 90 percent of all music sales in the country.
