The SPD Bundestag faction has voiced its opposition to the plans announced by Federal Minister of Economics Katherina Reiche (CDU) to cut subsidies for small‑scale solar installations.
According to SPD Deputy Chairman Armand Zorn, reported to the “Rheinische Post” on Saturday, rooftop photovoltaics have a future – and that future is everywhere in the country. In particular, in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg rooftop solar plays a central role for many homeowners seeking to modernise their buildings and reduce their energy bills.
Zorn criticised the draft amendment to the Renewable Energy Sources Act as a “leaked, outdated internal document” and argued that what matters is not an old working paper but what the SPD can enforce politically. He stressed that the SPD’s position is clear: in the coming months a substantial energy package is needed that will accelerate the expansion of renewables and the upgrading of power grids, enhance supply security, and markedly lower electricity costs for households and businesses.
