In light of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz’s visit to Washington, Juso leader Philipp Türmer urges Europe to take a more assertive stance against the United States government and its ultra‑wealthy backers.
“Now is the time for the EU Commission and European leaders to fight back with force against force” Türmer writes in a guest column in the “Frankfurter Rundschau”.
Whenever the United States face potential economic disadvantages, Türmer says we already have a solution: many software products sold by American firms have reliable open‑source alternatives. “German authorities should switch to these as soon as possible” he argues.
He also calls for the EU Digital Services Act to levy sizeable fines on U.S. social‑network companies, arguing that such measures could inflict billions in revenue losses on “Maga-billionaires” such as Elon Musk.
