The president of Gesamtmetall, Udo Dinglreiter, is urging the federal government to implement the promised weekly working hours. He says the coalition must introduce the weekly hours exactly as outlined in the coalition agreement and protect trust‑based working schedules without time‑recording. “That would send a strong signal to companies” he told the “Rheinische Post”.
Dinglreiter highlighted that both firms and employees want flexibility, not a rise in total hours. “It’s about spreading work more flexibly, not increasing it” he explained.
He also called for a faster pace under Chancellor Merkel’s administration. “The direction is right, but everything is moving too slowly. The analyses have been done; now action is required. By the summer break the essential reforms should be on the way”.
