Eintracht Braunschweig has dismissed head coach Heiner Backhaus with immediate effect, and assistant coach Julius Schell has also been relieved of his duties, the club announced on Tuesday.
Sports director Benjamin Kessel said that the decision followed a careful, ongoing observation and analysis of the team’s recent performance. “After many conversations – both with the coaching staff and with Heiner himself – we no longer feel confident that the current personnel arrangement can successfully carry the club forward” he explained. “This was not a decision taken because of a single match, but because the team has not shown the expected development in recent weeks”.
The club, presently 15th in the 2. Bundesliga standings, has not yet named a replacement for Backhaus. It said it would keep the public informed about the next steps in the near future.
